SUNNYVALE, Calif., October 2, 2017 — Tickets for the 2017 annual Fall Ice Cream Social and Dinner Cabaret Shows are now available. Audiences are encouraged to join A Celebration of Americana performed by the Peninsulaires Barbershop Harmony Chorus, on Saturday, November 11th, 2017, in Nick's Hall behind the First United Methodist Church of Sunnyvale, Sunnyvale, Calif. The Peninsulaires Chorus, Silicon Valley's Barbershop Chorus, will perform the first half, "A Celebration of Americana." Sweet Adelines Region 12 2016 2nd place Quartet Turbulence will be featured in the second half.
The chorus will delight you with some of your favorite American Classics, including the barbershop chestnuts "Coney Island Baby" and "Sweet Adeline". Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the 167 minute "Golden Age of American Railroad" set had to be cut from the show. Take a trip down memory lane to hear those other barbershop favorites you love.
The Ice Cream Social matinee features general admission tickets at $18 each. Doors and ice cream open at 1:00. Curtain rises promptly at 2:00PM.
Or, join us for the Cabaret Dinner Show; general admission $28: Doors open at 6:00; Dinner Service begins at 6:30. Curtain rises promptly at 7:30PM. Well behaved children 5 and under are admitted to either show at no charge. Please note that there will be a $2 surcharge for each ticket purchased at the door.
Turbulence began singing together in February 2016. After just three months together the group won their regional competition and qualified to compete at Sweet Adelines International Convention in October 2016.
Though the quartet is relatively young, the members are all very experienced and have a combined 78 years singing as Sweet Adelines. Tenor Julie Baxter has sung in 10 different quartet combinations, and is a leader on both the BASC and DVC showmanship teams. Lead Kristi Bispo is one of the Lead section leaders in BASC and has sung in 4 prior quartets. Baritone Laura Bode has also sung in 4 previous quartets, and is an assistant director with BASC and a showmanship team leader. Bass Julie Starr has sung in 8 previous quartets, and has been directing Bay Area Showcase Chorus since 2002.
"The Julies” on the top and bottom of the barbershop cookie are both music nerds and love tinkering with arrangements, and the barbershop filling of Kristi and Laura have both spent many years singing each other’s parts in the past.
Turbulence enjoys entertaining and is excited to see where the future will lead.
